Claire Derrick (BA CIM)

I have a BA (hons) in International Business & Marketing from the University of Greenwich, London, a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and am a qualified TEFL teacher. I’m also a Black Belt practicing traditional Karate, and an assistant instructor for junior age groups. After many years working in industry and the Charity sector I run my own event management training company where I can indulge my passion for events with a love of self development.

I teach event planning, project management, teamwork and leadership skills in a series of engaging classes called The Big Bash Theory; I get my students to apply these skills to organising their own party events and fundraising at school and get them to think about whether they want a career in marketing and event management. As a mum of two I totally buy into the idea that learning should be fun – what’s the point if it’s not?! As the American poet Alfred Mercier said “What we learn with pleasure we never forget.”
